I think we should go back to the beginning, to when GOD made the first man (Adam). He and his partner (Eve) led a simple lifestylclass="para">e. Plenty of food, they didn’t have to acquire clothes or shelter to protect them from the elements. You could say that this was the baseline of a simple lifestyle. This simple life soon ended when they disobeyed GOD. They were bared from entering the place of plenty, known as the Garden of Eden. Now Adam and Eve had to work, you know expend physical energy, use their muscles to gather food from among the thorns.
So the struggle continues, even to this day. Food, clothing and shelter are just not there for the taking. You have to expend labor to acquire them. The world wants you to have a lifestyle full of worry, stress and frustration, encouraging you to want more things then you need and are able to acquire. When I say world, you know what I mean!
Do you have less then or a lack of material things compared to other people? Is this because you believe you only have the things you need for your lifestyle and mindset or because you are unable to acquire more things? After thinking about it for a while, You realize, you have more things than than you need for a simple lifestyle.
Be aware of how the world tries to entice you to continue to want more things through advertising and your senses, seeing, touching, feeling, and smelling. Your emotions will be bombarded. The world will not be satisfied until they get you hooked on geting more material possessions . “That’s the only way you will have a happy and fulfilled lifestyle”, the world says. Once the world gets you hooked. Watch out! The world will continue to urge you to get more, more, more and more… You are told you can buy things with our EASY CREDIT plan. Just get a loan if you don’t have the means to buy more. It’s the road to happiness. How happy you will be with the latest, fancy model you are told.
In your exuberance to increase your happiness by buying new things they tell you, you have just run out of credit. No one will borrow you any more money or sell to you on the installment plan. Why are you so down? Is it because happiness is like a balloon, when punctured, flies out the window.
I hate to tell you this, there is a downside to loading yourself with debt. What if you loose your job or get laid off. If that happens, are you going to worry that you will loose all your possessions? Are you going to be angry at the person(s), the loan company or bank that borrowed you the money? “Silly person”, the world tells you, “you won’t loose everything”. Probably not. Only the important things that you consider important. What about the stress you will have, trying to figure out how to pay for all those material things. What are your friends and neighbors going to think when you drive up with a old used car instead of that newer fancy model you had. Is this a simple life? I don’t think so. What does GOD think? Does he approve of your elevated material lifestyle. Remember he kicked Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden.
Today’s simple lifestyle, is a life with out worry, no stress and complete happiness. I’m kidding! There is no lifestyle available without some stress and worry. Where is this Garden of Eden? I want to go there. It doesn’t exist anymore. There is no Garden of Eden. GOD closed the Garden of Eden, baring humans from going there. and replaced it with thorns. Remember the thorns. (Genesis 3:18). A somewhat simple lifestyle can be obtained with minimal worry and stress. Just remember that the world will do what ever they can to keep you from having a simple lifestyle.
What about your job? You don’t have a job. Why not? Why do I need a job? There are enough government programs so you don’t have to work. That goes against GOD (2 Thessalonians 3:10). I won’t go there. That’s a subject for another day. Back to your job. Does it pay enough to get the things you need, like food, clothes and shelter? Of course it does. Is there money left over from fulfilling your needs. Of course there is, unless you sneakily move some things from your want list to your need list. Shame on you. Oh yeah! Don’t we all do that! Guilty as charged. You say to yourself “I just want to be happy”. The problem with happiness is it probably only lasts for a moment. Then you’re left with the same old worry and stress. You find yourself on the credit treadmill. There is a reason why lenders call it revolving credit. You say you don’t like your job, I t’s not the job that you dislike. It just doesn’t pay enough or give you an abundance of self worth.
Now lets take a look at how your social standing could affect your lifestyle. How important to you is your position in society? It shouldn’t make a difference where your position is. Be humble whether you are a follower or a leader. Beware if your peers and friends think you’re special. Don’t forget the people you work with too. Again beware. With your ego inflated and your chest inflated and puffed up. You will need to look the part. Along with that comes more things and a haughty attitude. It could very likely turn you into a arrogant person full of stress, worrying when someone will come along and bust your bubble. Even if you are a leader, it would be better to replace all that stress with humbleness. Think first of those who follow you as more important than yourself.
Conclusion: A simple lifestyle may not be easy for you to obtain. The world will do everything they can to keep your lifestyle complicated, full of stress and encumbered with debt. If you really want a simple lifestyle, there is help! Give yourself to GOD through JESUS CHRIST. Yes, it is that simple. As in simple lifestyle.
